Kristen Stewart Offered Akira?

Reports have surfaced that Kristen Stewart has been offered a significant role in the live-action remake of Akira. She would join the cast alongside Garrett Hedlund who is nearing a deal to play the role of Kaneda. I am by no means an anime fan in the least but I can bet fans of the original can’t be too thrilled. Maybe she can smoke weed with them on her doorstep as a peace offering. Is a mainstream cast necessary to the success of the movie?
